Weems & Plath Sorensen Stormglass ES 55 01 01
The brass Sorensen Stormglass is a mysterious weather predictor that is made by the Danish company, E.S. Sorensen. Versions of the stormglass have been in use by sailors since the mid 1700‘s.
Admiral Fitzroy, the famous sailor and meteorologist, used a similar instrument aboard the HMS Beagle during his historic voyage with Charles Darwin in the 1830’s. After 250 years, how the Stormglass works is still a mystery, but it is believed that it has to do with the electromagnetic changes caused by weather and sun storms.
The appearance of different crystal structures inside the sealed glass chamber indicates changes in the weather two days in advance. The glass chamber is encapsulated in a beautifully crafted polished brass cylinder. It can be displayed freestanding or mounted to a boat bulkhead or wall using a mounting bracket that can be purchased separately (ES 55 02 01).
